Fonyód

Location: Fonyód, Lake Balaton Region, Hungary

Challenge:

Before 2021, several areas of Fonyód, including lakeside promenades, cycling routes, and public beaches, lacked updated Street View imagery. This reduced the town’s online visibility and competitiveness among Lake Balaton destinations, limiting local businesses’ exposure in 360-degree navigation and Google’s “Explore Nearby” features.

Solution:

In partnership with local authorities, 3DPano carried out comprehensive digital mapping, capturing over 200 kilometers of roads, promenades, and lakeside trails with high-resolution 360-degree panoramic imagery. This extensive data refresh updated Google Street View, significantly enhancing Fonyód’s visual representation and user experience across Google Maps.

Impact:

The project improved the accuracy and richness of Fonyód’s map data, boosting online discoverability and supporting local businesses by increasing their visibility. Tourists now experience a consistent and appealing digital identity that accurately reflects Fonyód’s real-world charm and amenities.

Adaptation Tip:

Destinations should collaborate closely with experienced technical partners to regularly update map data. Consistent mapping efforts foster greater visitor trust, enhance destination discoverability, and build local pride through high-quality, reliable digital representation.
